Pleasant View Cemetery overlooks the Platte River Valley in northeast Saunders County, Nebraska. It’s located on land originally homesteaded in 1869 by Daniel Morris Williams of South Wales. According to Thomas Thomas, who traveled with Williams across the river, the grass at the time was knee-high and dotted with antelope.

In 1887, Williams was a founding member of Bethel Church and the accompanying cemetery on his land. The church served the rural community on The Ridge—named for its prominent location between two valleys—for 30 years. Times changed and the building was eventually moved to Williams’ son’s property nearby. His grandson was happy to show it to you well into the 1990s.

Despite all the change in Saunders County, Pleasant View has lasted. Generations of dedicated volunteers have helped the cemetery to grow in the decades since. It remains a dignified, beautiful, well-maintained property honoring the lives of loved ones.
